A Cut Above And Healthier Strawberry and Strawberry Lemon Jam

Would you still use the store-bought jam if I show you how simple it is to make your own jam at home?
So for a long time, I've been thinking about making jams at home, not to save money or to eat chemical-free ones but because I love making food my own way. So I had a pack of frozen strawberries in my freezer, been lying in there, the pack too felt useless probably. But when the thought of making jam at home struck my mind, I decided to try it myself without referring to any recipes or looking up on the internet. I casually started listing down ingredients in my mind that could possibly go into making a jam, keeping it as simple as I can. And then I started making it with apprehension that if it won't taste like the store-bought ones then I have f*cked up big time. But HOLY GUACAMOLE! It turned out better than I expected.

So basically there are two recipes; one for plain strawberry jam and the other for strawberry lemon jam.

Ingredients

➤Fresh/frozen strawberries- 500 gms (i used frozen)
➤Sugar- 1 cup
Lemon extract- 1 tsp
➤Water- 1/4th cup or less

➤Half a lemon with zest

1. In a saucepan, toss the frozen/fresh strawberries and if you choose to use fresh strawberries then add a lil water but if you are using frozen then you don't have to use water since the strawberries are already soggy when they are thawed.

2. Cover it with a lid and on low flame, cook the strawberries until they become soft and easily mashable. Remove the lid and occasionally stir them until you seem the strawberries loosing all the water.

3. At this stage, add sugar and stir. Now the amount of sugar depends on how sweet you want your jam to be, accordingly you can add less or more.

4. In order, for the sugar to prevent crystallization and to reduce the sweetness, a tsp of lemon extract is added. But if you are making lemon strawberry jam then add half a lemon juice with the lemon zest. Check the taste before adding the zest. Skip it if it already tastes too tangy.

5. Cook on low flame until you obtain the desired consistency. Once it's done, switch off the flame and let it cool down completely before pouring it into a glass bottle, a mason jar, or an airtight container.

NOTE:
❥You don't have to thaw the frozen strawberries, you can just pull them out of the freezer and toss them into the pan.

❥Avoid putting wet spoon in the jam. This helps in preserving the jam for a longer time.

❥Always store it in the fridge.

❥It can stay up to a month.
